An Affiliate of NAMI : The National Alliance For The Mentally Ill Sponsorship As stated earlier, NAMI-Savannah is a nonprofit, grassroots, self-help, support and advocacy organization of people with mental illnesses, their families, and friends. Our message is very simple, "You are not alone." One in five people experience a mental disorder during their lives. Mental illness crosses all economic, racial, ethnic, and gender lines. We have found that sharing experiences and successes creates an environment that fosters understanding and recovery. We provide a lifeline for people when society and government turn their backs on the problems of the mental ill and their loved ones. Needless to say, the support we provide, the educational programs we offer, and the research we support costs money. Our membership dues are modest (or free) and cannot totally fund our mission. Rapid growth in our membership has challenged us to provide greater levels of education, advocacy, and support for our members.
