Family To Family

Diane Reeder presents certificates to recent graduates of a Family-to-Family class

The NAMI Family-To-Family program is a 12 week course for families of individuals with severe brain disorders (mental illness). The course is taught by trained family members and the materials are furnished at no cost to you.

The curriculum focuses on schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder (manic depression), clinical depression, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and other brain disorders. Topics include, learning the facts about these disorders, dealing with critical periods of illness, the biology of the brain and the results of the latest research into brain diseases, medication review, communication skill workshops, self-care and rehabilitation services available in the Savannah area, and advocacy and methods for fighting stigma about mental illness.

Perhaps the greatest benefit of NAMI-Savannah's Family-to-Family Program is learning that you are not alone. The support provided by others with similar experiences cannot be found anywhere else.

"I had so many questions... How could I get a clear diagnosis for my relative?...What could I do when there was a crisis?...What local services in Savannah were available for us?...What are the best treatments available now for my relative? NAMI helped me answer my questions"

"As an engineer; I admit I was skeptical, but it really helped me deal with these problems better... The most logical choice I ever made."

"It helped me save my son's life."
